Nothing came up, and I assumed the seed was old. It wasn\u2019t until later that I learned lettuce needs light to germinate.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">This time I checked the planting depth calculator on<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/gardenvoila.com\/tools\/planting-depth-calculator\/\"> <span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Gardenvoila<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> before sowing carrots, lettuce, and a few bulbs, and germination was noticeably better. Seed packets don\u2019t always list depth clearly, especially for older leftover seed. I also learned bulbs go deeper than I\u2019d been planting them.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Which crops give you the most trouble with depth? I\u2019m still unsure about heavy clay and whether to plant a bit shallower there.
